In the land of green and smog - Taiwan

Published by shiny at 11:40 am under Uncategorized Edit This

So, here I am in Taiwan, in Jhubei, Hsinchu County to be exact and wow, have I learnt some things.

I have been teaching English here for the past 2 months and can say I really haven’t enjoyed it, well aside from smiling when one of my kids rubs his face onto the floor for the 3rd time that day, but hey I guess that’s what kids do when they are 3 and have Asbergers.

Oh and before I start in case you try looking for Jhubei on the internet my advice is don’t. The Taiwanese are a lovely people but one thing none of them can do is agree on how to spell Jhubei. I have seen it spelt with a C, a Z and a J and with and without the h.

Even the trains don’t know the train spells it with a J and then the station with a Z just to help all those foreign traveler types, but hey its a nice place so that’s what counts right?

Aside from that teaching is a real drain on my energy, my regular day starts at 9am and finishes at 9pm, crazy I know, but that’s life here.

Makes me wonder why I packed in working in the UK where I worked for the Home Office as part of the stringent immigration service which polices the open-door immigration policy the UK has at the moment. Ever tried policing an open door? It aint easy let me tell you.

Anyhow I must not grumble I am finished here in 4 weeks time and will be off to look for a new exciting job,on the tiny smog-filled island of Taiwan.
